Discussion:
Flash on our websites?

Hi there,

sorry for cross-posting, but I think the question is a really serious one

I agree I do not open the kde.org website very often, but I did so Saturday
when at the KDE booth in Dornbirn. Since I use a Flash blocker I was quite
surprised to get notified that the website tries to load Flash content (see
attached screenshot and inspection panel).

I really wonder why it is necessary for a Free Software Community like KDE
to use closed source technology on the very website where we promote Free
Software.

Best regards, Myriam

oh well, without screenshot, then, but really... dear kde-community-owner,
a 400k screenshot is hardly a big deal...

Hi Myriam,

I've taken a look and don't see any Flash on the site here.

Also, that element is in a really strange place. The place where the
"no flash" elements are inserted shouldn't have anything there, as the
<header> element of the page should be the first element after <body>
(and your no flash elements are in between these).

Could you please check the original source your browser is being served?

Thanks,
Ben

I see nothing in the source, but here is a link to the screenshot
inspection image I took:
Loading Image...

Could this be due to the piwik analyzer trying to use a flash cookie?

Regards, Myriam

PS. I see the flash content item on all kde.org subpages as well

I don't see any flash content on https://www.kde.org/ - firefox on mageia v7
located in Israel. You can share a link to the screenshot after you uploaded it
to a web service, or to an image sharing site such as https://imgur.com/ .

Click to allow the blocker to show the Flash element, and then show in the inspector where the actual Flash element is, rather than the blocker's placeholder. If you can't find it... it must be a bug in the blocker extension and there is indeed no Flash.

Makes sense, indeed. Sorry for the noise, then :-)
